Electrical outlet question.

Hi all -
My question for the day...

I saw this wall outlet on Amazon and thought it looked like
a great idea. Can this be installed in my RV (Class A DP)? Or, is
there an issue with home vr. RV application of which I am
unaware.

Might work and might not. Some RV's have thin walls and need a special RV plug that is very shallow and might not even require the wires to be cut, just passed under a screw terminal.
Pull one of the RV's out and see what it looks like compared to a household unit.
I'm looking to replace some of ours but we have thick walls and room behind them plus the wiring is high quality in this rig.

I put on up front on DW side. Had to change out the box but was very easy.

If it fits it will work, as said above depends on if you have the depth in the location you want to install it. Im sure you have someplace with enough room in the box maybe one mounted on a cabinet.

Looks a bit deep for an RV outside wall. In addition, it looks like an additional box is required. The slots in the side would seem to indicate that it generates a considerable amount of heat that will have to go somewhere. Except for a mount where there's a lot of room behind it or in the side of a cabinet, it's not something I'd consider. In addition, we travel with the main inverter off (the refrig and 2 freezers are on a dedicated inverter) so it wouldn't work well for us. I did put in 6 additional cigar lighter sockets throughout the Bus. DC to DC conversion is much more efficient than DC to AC through the inverter and then back to DC through a power supply such as this.

FWIW I assume the attraction is the USB ports. You can use it if it fits. I would not. There is not enough room to make me happy stuffing all the parts into that space to fit a decent step down transformer and regulated power supply. Much easier and safer to run something off the 12 VDC side.

I installed one in a corner panel where depth was not an issue. As long as it fits it's good.

We have two of these in the motor home and two at home.

If you don't have room behind the wall, there is another type that simply plugs into the outlet and has the AC plugs and USB charger built in.

Those verticle "slots" are "USB recepticals".... (they are not there for cooling).

Take a closer look at the sides of the duplex below.



They appear to be vents to me that are needed for cooling the USB chargers.

Wouldn't you agree?
