J Birder, you are correct I could use one of those. You think the USB plug would give enough power to operate the GPS?

New2road - ahhh; so that's how I can plug into my info system, it didn't make sense to remove the info center and plug into the back of it. I've been ignoring dealing with that because I had other more important things to take care of - but thanks for mentioning it !!

The output would depend on amps of USB outlet minus about 5% 2amp should be fine. Shorter cable one would help. It may just take a long to recharge if you end up charging enough to get ahead while in use your ok. They sell nice flush cig outlet panels with USBs, switches voltage meter ect. If I was to install on your my dash I will try to find one that had true fast charging capability USB Outlet. You could also just find a double or triple extension cord cigarette with USBs cut off cig male and tie to 12v and stash it away in dash area when not in use.You could get separate power cord or hide new cig under dash and make up nice stand alone desecrate neat install for GPS ...but some power cords were/are Traffic antenna sort of thing I don't understand without looking up for you. I couldn't use an old one on new GPS and still have free traffic. Most newer GPS are actually Android tablets from my understanding not sure if traffic deal has changed .
