Question EMS - Hardwire vs Portable Surge Protection?

Last night we lost our power & need to replace the coach's power cord & surge protector. We will upgrade to an EMS and are trying to decide between another hardwired protector or a portable protector.

For hardwire, we are looking at the Surge Guard 35530 30A Hardwire OR Progressive Industries HW30C Hardwired EMS.

For portable, we are looking at the newest Progressive Industries 30A portable.

We have to decide quickly to place order so we can get it tomorrow.

Please give us recommendations on hardwire vs portable and brand (Progressive Industries vs Surge Guard or...).

I have the hardwired Progressive 30 amp with remote display. Stays in power bin and does its job.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

I would definitely go with the Progressive Industries, whether hardwired or portable. Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service. Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Hardwired is the way. However, I didn't have room so I had to get a portable. After 7 years it hasn't "walked away". Get the Progressive.

There is an advantage to a portable EMS. In a strange RV park, if you run into power pole problems, you can walk down the line and check out other power poles. Hard to do with a hard-wired unit. Have been using a portable for 11 years on the trailer, it never walked.

Progressive for sure.

Thumbs up Progressive it is!

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Although the Surge Guard has a significantly higher joule rating, the great reviews and lifetime warranty swayed us. We went with the Progressive EMS-LCHW30. We spend about half the year at our property on the WA coast, so it's more convenient and secure hard-wired in the basement. We also had to replace our 30A electric cord and upgraded to 42' so that we have greater reach to electric poles when traveling. Hopefully we will be back in business on Wednesday!
