EMS reading ZERO

I'm full-timing in my 1998 National Dolphin Gasser Class A here in Cincinnati, and everything's working fine, but as I walked pass the intellitec panel I noticed it was displaying ZERO amps being used. I'm plugged into 30 amp shore power and EMS is set to 30 amps. I've not noticed any power surges.

Everything electrical seemes to be working fine; furnace going, tv on, lights and hot water no problem.

Other than this apparently being the original 1998 equipment, any ideas? Is there any way to reset the EMS? also, what exactly does it do other than show amps being used.

I've very familiar what each power load associated with different appliances are and know not to try to run electric space heater, coffee maker, and microwave at the same time or It will throw a 30 amp breaker so I could do without the actual display, but like having it.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Bud

Possible reversed polarity on the power pole you are plugged into. I have noticed that my EMS will not read any power hookup if the hot and neutral are swapped. The current sense circuit only reads in one direction

Put a little more load on the circuit, such as an AC and see if it shows any higher amperage draw. If all that is on is the TV, the load may be low enough that it doesn't register. The lights and furnace run off of 12v, so the batteries may be topped off enough that the converter isn't drawing any amps.

LOL, so I had a very similar experience.
I'm assuming you have a 50 amp service.
so when you are plugged into 30 amps one of the legs of the 50 amp plug is not getting power.
This may be what you are seeing, it was for me...

EMS reading ZERO

The EMS on a 50 amp RV will not show amps when plugged into 50 amps but will/ should when plugged into 30 amps. Check to see if one of your circuit breakers are off.

The dogbone adaptor will power both legs of a 50 amp RV, when plugged into 30 amp service. If it didn't, half of your stuff wouldn't work.

Its about 1/3 the power but it will work.

Hi Dan, I've used my 15amp ceramic heater but the ems is still on flat zero. Always before I registered at least 2amps because of the electric water heater and some other minor draws. I'm going to try turning off circuit breakers and then turning off the main breaker on the pedestal and then turning on main then coach circuit breakers and see if that does anything.

btw, for the others who answered the tread, I thought I explained that I'm running on 30 amps, NOT 50 amps. Everything has been working fine until this morning when it suddenly started displaying zero amps.

Thanks everybody. I'll try turning on the A/C the first day it gets above 50 degrees and see if that works.

This... If a breaker is off, for whatever brilliant reason the amps won't show! Freaked me out when I turned off the breaker for the front AC and away went the amp display.

If the breaker which provides power to the washer/dryer is off the EMS display shows "0" amps. It still works as designed but the load meter doesn't display.

That’s exactly why I suggested they check for a breaker that might be turned off. I had my combo W/D removed and thought it would be prudent to shut off that breaker. It caused the same issue that the OP is experiencing.

Thanks guys; I'll check the circuit breakers when I get home tonight and let you know if that's the problem. Oh that it would be that simple.

Again I'm in a 30 amp environment- shore power and the MH both are designed for 30 amp- NOT 50 amp.

you guys are awesome. Thae was exactly what was going on. The washer/dryer breaker looked like it was on, but when I snapped it OFF/ON the display on the EMS fired right up.

Thanks jacwjames, clifftall, and nehog. hanks to all who responded. this place always comes thru.
