Engine cranks but won’t start

I have 1998 Tradwimds, it has been sitting for a couple of years, I replaced the batteries the engine cranks very well, but will not start.

This is my first time working on an RV and Diesel engine so any detailed info would be great.

What year, what engine, engine model??

Any warning lights on dash when trying to start?

How much fuel is in the tank. If not treated with an biocide it may have algae and the filters may be plugged. You might consider pumping as much of the fuel out as possible (see if you can see algae which is usually black), then fill ~1/2 tank. I'd treat with Biobor.

I'd do is change fuel filters. Do some searches on how to do this. On my rig there is was a transfer pump that would run ~30 seconds to prime the injector pump. When changing filters I would cycle the key 5/6 times to make sure filters got full. At one point I had trouble doing that so started prefilling the filters.

Diesel engines require air, fuel, and compression.

I agree with jacwjames, that fuel delivery is the most likely problem. Change out filters, cycle the ignition several time to ensure not only that the new filters are full, but that fuel has reached the main fuel pump. Then, try again.

The "fly in this ointment" is if you have any dash lights that are not cycling ON during the initial turn of the ignition, or any other electronic indicators that are failing.

Post your results.

Not disagreeing to change filters but....I say crack any top bleed screw at filer housing or loosen filters or lines to them first as someone cycles key. You most likely have not moved any algae into filters yet if in tank. Adding more air swapping filters might make even more difficult to wake it back up. DO NOT USE STARTING FLUID.
Please post your make model year and engine.
