I remove every trace of whatever caulk the factory and prior (bigger the glob, better the job) owner used on the roof and Eternabond Taped all the straight line seams. Front and rear cap to roof, shower sky light and both vents. The black/gray tank vents and roof ladder attachment points are sealed with Eternabond Micro seal and Eternabond Elastomer Sealant.

The tape on the front cap to roof seam is 8 years old with no signs of coming loose or deteriorating in any way. Coach is parked outside year round.

Eternabond is a relatively new product that, perhaps, the inspectors were not familiar with. I haven't found an introduction date for it, but the registered trademark was filed late 2014 and granted in late 2015. By now, I hope, most inspectors should see it and recognize it as something quite superior to "tape" or Dicor sealant.

I'm ion my 3rd year after taping every seal and joint with Eternabond, followed by a strip of Dicor lap sealant along all taped edges. I cleaned the applied areas first with isopropyl alcohol beforehand. I'm certain Eternabond would adhere to an oil slick. It ain't ever gonna leak...

EternaBond Tape is freaking AWESOME!

Had to comment... Eternabond is the superglue of tapes. I just sealed all of my transition strips, corners and all roof openings with Eternabond 4" & 1" Fiber Backed Paintable Tape.

I cut away what old caulk I could and then cleaned the rest with a bristle brush and acetone. I scrubbed the hell out of it and the Eternabond adhered like no business.

Do not let grey come into contact with grey. If you do, chuck that piece and begin again.

I finished off my roof with 3 coats of Heng's Rubber Roof Coat. It looks amazing.

I first used Eternabond in 2012 so the filing could have been a renewal. They do reference an article published in Trailer Life from April 2000 (Roof Leak Repair Products & Sealing Tape | EternaBond®). I suspect the tape has been in use on buildings long before the first use on an RV and I wonder about the experience of said inspectors if they considered the tape as a down check or if the idea of taped seals was something the inspectors training discouraged.

I recommend Eternacaulk for the tape edges.

Yep....that would work too. I've always had good success with Dicor these past 30 years, so it's my go-to. Plus, the Eternacaulk wasn't readily available in my area.

5 years ago removed all the old sealant, cleaned applied Dicor self-leveling sealant and Eternabond tape over the Dicor. A tip from reading iRV2.

These knuckleheads must have all gone to the same school. In my 15 years as a service manager EVERY tech I talked to thought eternabond was the greatest.

4 things that we NEVER leave home without in our Class A
  1. Dicor (Self Leveling)
  2. Eternabond Cleaner (Spray Can)
  3. Eternabond Tape 4" (I can trim if necessary)
  4. Seam Roller

Because...............you just never know

So I did all my seams in 2008, I live in Florida and the moho is parked outside. I can report that the outer skin (white vinyl) has cracked like an egg shell but the substrate is as solid as its ever been. Never had a leak and still don't. To pretty it up, I'll lightly sand the vinyl and cover with some rubber paint for roofs. Haven't decide which product yet. All in all, I'm completely satisfied.

Online ordering?

Plus, Eternacaulk is not self-leveling -- good for curved surfaces.

Taping the seams seems easy enough, but can anyone describe/show how you tape the uneven area where the vents meet the roof? Seems like all the screw heads would be difficult to seal around maybe?
