Exhaust Smoking

Had a minor accident with a drunk guy and he hit the rear corner of the MH. this squashed the exhaust pipe flat and I was able to pry it open enough to be able to run and not get it towed, about 90%.

after getting it repaired, when idling and on full throttle it now throws out black smoke. Never did it before.

the tailpipe was replaced and a new beautiful chrome exhaust end now sticks out.

how could this have caused the exhaust to smoke?

I do not think there was any engine damage, but I may be wrong in my assumption.

any ideas?

thanks

Tom

could it have jarred the air cleaner loose and kinked the intake hose?

Exhaust Smoking

Sounds like something is plugging your air intake.

The bent exhaust could cause high back pressure this can damage the turbocharger exhaust seal ring. What color smoke? and what does the smoke smell like? Blue or blue whitish smoke would indicate oil being burnt. The smell can be either a fuelish smelling or smell like burning oil. If it smells like oil I would say you need to get your turbocharger resealed. Safe Travels

the smoke looks black, can't smell it.

took it to frightliner and they came back with all the cats smoke and only thing they can find is two injectors are going bad and heiu pump tests almost bad.
you know about 7k worth.

that was a lot of help, don't want to be going down the street puking out black smoke.

Thats a simple fix.
Could be much more complex.

If you let the pump and injectors fix go you will write a very big check.

If the injector is stuck open-dumping diesel in it can smoke black but it usually knocks pretty loud.
It might be time to get a second opinion. Is there a Cat dealer close to you?
its your decision but I would get a opinion. And they hardly smoke at all. Too many emission standards to let that happen.
Good Luck and Safe travels.

Could the Charge Air Cooler be leaking or one of the CACs connections?

You would have to visually inspect the components for cracks or loose connections.
