Extended Warranty

I'm about to purchase a 2013 Tiffin Phaeton 40 QBH from a dealer. I already know that insurance will be more then what I'm use to paying as in it's a better quality built coach. Also, they will offer to sell me and extended warranty. Any thoughts, suggestions or recommendations?

Call around on your own and get prices. The dealer will mark up whatever they pay for it. Or, take that amount of money and self insure.

Do a search here. You will find hours of reading. I would never buy one and most do not. There is a reason it is a great profit center for a dealership and the company issuing it.

If you are not a do it yourself kinda person, or have the want or knowledge I highly recommend it. I would do some research on the web as to the feedback on each company. Every person I have told to buy one has thanked me because they had a huge bill they would have been stuck paying. Its probably going to cost $5k or more

On our Newmar, National General quoted me over $4000 a year for an extended warranty. That is insanity. I think the lady perhaps thought I was stupid!!

Just remember that whatever you pay up front for the service contract is only a part of your total out of pocket. Every claim will have a deductible, typically in the hundreds of $'s. Hard to get it to pay for itself with that kind of schedule. I, as others do, self-insure. So far, so good on my Open Road. Some will end up on the plus side with a service contract paying out more than they paid in, but probabilities say most won't. That's what the service contract provider is banking on, literally.
