Angry Fan blew up

This is an FYI, my 17 year old rear raidator Fan blew up and took out the radiator, charge cooler and one radiator hose. Check your stuff, this is going to be expensive.

My new to me 2004 caterpillar engine had sucked some of the insulation down into the fan, some of the corners of the blades were cracked or missing. I removed the failed insulation and then we pulled the radiator and CAC to replace the fan blade. I was glad I found it before what you are going thru happened for sure. It took me a whole weekend to replace it, but that was at my house, mechanic would surely have better tools and know what to do, it took me some trial and error to remove everything to get to the fan and it was all me and my 13 year old son could do to lift out that radiator.

Good 'heads up". Thanks I wiggle the fan blades everytime I have them exposed checking for a bearing going out. So far so good.

Do you have the side radiator with the hydraulic fan? I did see a post on the fan/motor bracket cracking and coming apart which let the fan assembly drop/fall into the radiator.

If you have a rear radiator, was it just a fan bade (or multiple blades) that came off?
