Semper FI, Leatherneck! We have decided to change this trip up considerably and will not be attempting the 450+ mile days.

Run the numbers. It may be FAR cheaper to get hotel rooms than drive your rig like that.

Show us the revised itinerary. I'm curious as to what you deleted since I did a similar trip in May.

Lol. if we all ran those numbers and cared about those numbers we would sell our rigs or never buy one in the first place lol.

The convenience of quick easy overnight stays without checking in and out of a hotel is worth a lot to me. Not having to drag suitcases in and out of a hotel room. Not to mention not having to pull over every hour for the DW to use the bathroom.

It's definitely not about the $ numbers. If it was, very few of us would have one of these things .

Latest plan is below. Still aggressive, but I am confident in this one. Still need to map the rest of the trip - from TN, we will hit Chicago and then make our way home to CA via I80. 3 nights in Chicago and then 3-4 nights on the road home.

423 miles – Roy’s Motel & Café – Amboy, CA x 1 night
354 miles – Homolovi State Park – AZ x 1 night
438 miles – Mountain Rd RV Park – Tucumcari, NM x 1 night
472 miles – KOA Lake Eufaula West Campground – Checotah, OK x 1 night
369 miles – Graceland RV Park – Memphis, TN x 1 night
170 miles – Piney Campground – Dover, TN x 3 nights

Just be aware some campground and RV parks don't allow check-in after a certain time, often 6-7pm, some as early as 5pm as they don't want after dark arrivals disturbing their guests for those longer days on the road, where you will need to get started early the next morning.

I’m so glad I’m retired. I used to travel like that, because I had only two or maybe 3 weeks. Sadly you have some good stops that since you’ll get in at 5 ( at best )and out again at 8 am you’ll see nothing. You can say “I’ve been there” but know nothing about the area. Hopefully the few days in Dover will make it worthwhile. For that travel schedule I always used casino parking lots or beside the freeway small mom and pop rv parks with a pull thru found on the same day by the Allstays app. Those places still have late same day space availability because they aren’t destination parks.

I've stayed at two of the RV parks you're staying at. Mountain Rd and Graceland. You are only a few blocks from the original Rt. 66 when in Tucumcari so be sure and take a drive through the town " Only a few blocks long ". Really a good time for some great photo ops. Needless to say, if you don't stay a couple of days in Memphis you will regret it. Elvis's home and museum and of course Beal St. Like I said , take time to smell the roses you never know what's around the corner,

For the sake of good relaxation and enjoying each stop I'd avoid one nighters unless really necessary. We limit our driving distance to average 300 miles. For a real tourist stop stay 3 nights minimum.

You are young and have a brand new MH. This is doable and gonna be fun with the right attitude. We say one of the reasons we have Class A's is; The trip, vacation, fun, etc. starts when we pull out of the driveway. I love driving my MH. In some ways it's a letdown when we actually park it. I'd just look at this as a great shakedown run with some destinations that you want on the way. Have fun!

Agree, and I do look forward to retirement when we can spend a lot more time on these trips. My wife and I share the driving, and we both enjoy the sights through the giant picture window/windshield .
