Flat towing truck

Just bought a new 2016 GMC canyon to flat tow. Everything working fine except just realized that I have to disconnect the battery at the end. Just wondering if it is really necessary. Just a pain in the neck to do that on a cross country trip. Use a brake buddy and I need the power. Wondering why the disconnect. Thanks for the info

Is it because when you turn the key to the unlock position, it powers up the accessories? I am lucky that there is a position between lock and accessories on with my Ranger. No power drain, but steering is unlocked.

My chev has power assist stearing and if it had power it would make a mess.

You can buy a knife disconnect for battery and run a cig lighter wire to cab for the brake system

Same truck, used to have Stay N Play wired direct with battery charge line. Have a rotary switch so I turn it and powers everything off. Very easy. Enjoy the truck.

Similar situation with our Enclave - installed a Tow switch so that part is easy, apparently eliminating power to things like steering. Also had to put in a switch for two other fuses.

The real reason I am responding is I found that no matter what, the cig lighter was powered so my Brake Buddy works just fine. Your situation might be different but worth checking.
