Fleetwood Southwind 32V

Any of you own a Fleetwood Southwind 32V?

I just bought a 1997 model with only a little over 25,000 miles on it. It has the Ford F53 Chassis on it and a Ford 460 engine. Drove it 90 miles from Lincoln City Or to Seaside OR and it is going to need some brake work and some rust removed from parts of the Chassis. What is the HP and Torque for the 460 engine. Best I could find was 245 hp and 400 lb ft of torque. Would appreciate any and all comments about weak areas in this motorhome and some of the good features as well. New to the forum

My 1995 Pace Arrow was very similar and the biggest issue was heat buildup with the stock exhaust manifolds. That was fixed with some custom headers and a freer flowing exhaust. Other than that, just the regular issues. Keep up to speed on maintenance and you should be OK.

One of the issues those older Ford chassis' had with brakes, was the brake fluid. After it got hot it would create/retain water and eventually lose braking power. When you do the brakes, check the front brake lines carefully and replace if necessary and then bleed the system and refill with synthetic brake fluid.

The 460's do like free flowing exhaust. My 1990 Jamboree had a 460. Back then it had a catalytic converter. The exhaust came out of the engine at 3" and squeezed down to 2.5" at the rear of the converter and back to 3" again. I cut the cone on the back of the converter at 3", added a stock 5 ton truck muffler, 3" in and 3" out and the thing ran well and cool for many years.
