Hi All,
First reply/post to IRV2, but have received a lot of great info for all the RV questions I have had. We recently (3 weeks ago) purchased a new-to-us 2010 Fleetwood Encounter 32BH, which was the name of the Storm Models before the former owner of the Encounter name filed/threatened to file a lawsuit over Fleetwoods use of "their" name.
Anyway, in searching for all the info I could find on the Encounter/Storm models before purchase, I ran across a thread (on another RV Forum) regarding the generator shutdown issue. IIRC it was for the 2011/2012 model year with the same exact symptoms. The owner final got a diagnosis and solution from Fleetwood. As described in the previous post, it has to do with a series of design flaws leading to vapor lock in the generator fuel lines that mimic a fuel pump failure. The combination of poor generator compartment venting, routing of engine exhaust pipe too close to the generator, and the placement of the generator so close to the engine with insufficient heat shielding, all lead to the generator overheating and/or vapor lock.
Check with Fleetwood directly or have your dealer do it. I want to say they even issued a service bulletin, but I may be wrong on that part.
IdahoSRT10 where did you get the parts for your vent mod? It looks very well done.
It appears that the previous owner of our MH may have had some or all of these done, as we have yet to have any problems with ours over the 1,600 miles we have already put on it. Of course, the hottest we have seen has only been about 102 with the gen-set running.
Hope this helps! We love the layout and the quality seems to be very good. Looking to get many years of use out of it.
Tom
