Does anyone have thoughts on +\- of one vs other?
Wondering about general membership as well as roadside assist.

It sort of depends on what you are looking for from an RV club. If it's just roadside assist, you don't need either - you can get it without any club membership at all. Are you looking for local camping clubs? Discounts? A slick monthly magazine?

FMCA is member-owned and less "commercial" than GS. Has a slick magazine too, and an excellent tire discount thru Michelin & Continental Fleet programs. GS has better campground discount program as well as Pilot/FJ fuel discount and a Camping World discount. Both have numerous local RV clubs, but GS is mostly regional based chapters whereas FMCA includes many brand-related chapters as well as regional. Both contract roadside assist through an independent provider and both have a relationship with an RV insurance company.

Compared to what we have spent on our rigs, I would recommend just joining them both for a year and evaluate what they offer. The costs have been low enough for us to just go ahead and keep our membership in both and hope we don't need most of the emergency service they provide. We have been to a FMCA rally and it provided factory reps meeting in seminars. The best thing was the vendors that flock to the rallies - we replaced all our interior lights with LED's at a very reasonable price and that alone was worth it. The vender allowed us to take the lights back to the coach and try them and if it wasn't everything we thought it would be he would take them back. I had the wrong base for one set and he took care of it right on the spot. jmo mark

Thanks Gary & Mark

Good summaries and points taken.
I was leaning towards one or the other but will likely join FMCA and enjoy benefits of both.

We've had GS roadside for many yrs and they have provided great service...wouldn't leave home without it...
Have to assume FMCA roadside would be equally responsive. Will figure out which to go with for roadside assist when my current policy expires.

Thanks again

We use Good Sam Roadside Assistance. We have had it since we started RV'ing in 2000, and only had a couple of instances of poor service. I think that can happen with any of the services, depending on where you are when service is needed. The last time our GS came up for renewal, I waited until about a week before the expiration date and called them, saying I wanted to cancel the service. I was transferred to a higher level rep, who ended up giving me 3 1/2 years for $190! That's about $54 per year!

We first joined FMCA for the Michelin tire discount. The FMCA Assist program is worth the cost of membership for us!

FMCA does come with travel assistance if you are a member. Some campgrounds have FMCA discounts so it pays for itself with one stay.
