Question Folding mattress

We are considering buying a Jayco Atlante 27A. I have concerns about the folding mattress. Will it stand up to time, I worry that you will be able to "feel" the fold when lying down, is it "soft" in that area?
It looks like you have to have the slide out in order to use the bed. We haven’t had a slide before, would there be any time when this is a problem?
I would welcome any comments, suggestions.

I dumped the spring mattress for a Memory Foam. Folds but doesn't retain the fold.

Thank you, that is a great suggestion, not something I would have thought of.

Many models/brands of coaches use the folding/sliding bed. Our friends have one in their Winnebago Journey. The mattress doesn't suffer from being folded, or a better description....bent, but their mechanism has been problematic since new.

We've never liked any mattress that cam new with our coaches, as the manufacturers usually install a pretty cheap mattress. We've changed out the mattress on each coach. Soooo.....make sure you can go to a better quality mattress that will bend for the slide operation. Many are happy with foam, which should bend fine.

Lastly, there may be a rare occasion where you can't put the slide out or need to bring it in. One would be in a bad storm, bringing the slide in to prevent damage. Another time might be in a tight spot or while sleeping at a Rest Stop or Walmart.

Thanks for the reply. I guess the advantage of memory foam would be you could sleep with it bent up, if in a pinch and still have some surface to sleep on!

One more option is a sleep number type of mattress. This is what we have on our tilt bed and it sleeps great. Its a king so we can still sleep on it (north and south) with the slides in when in a Walmart or truck stop

I haven’t seen how a sleep number mattress works, I will have to look into that.
Thanks

We looked at upgrading in 2019. Many new units came with that bending bed. It is a non-starter for us, for many of the same reasons OP is concerned with. Now it goes on the "can't have" list just like the must haves and would be nice lists.
