Ford 7.3 gas fuel mileage?
Hello all- would anyone like to post some actual calculated fuel mileage numbers for the Ford 7.3 Godzilla? On flat ground with or without a toad- what about headwinds and climbing passes? Downhill with a tail wind? Please specify you're rig if you don't mind. What should I expect cross country of my new 29Vista??? It has an 80 gallon tank- not sure that's going to be enough! Thanks!

No, 80 gallons will not be enough to get you across the country...

I had a 2022 Jayco Precept 36C and I didn't have it long enough to really tell you what all I was getting but on flat land and some hills here in the PNW I was getting around 7-8 mpg.

After the first few tank's of gas, my hand calculations matched the computer so I now rarely hand calculate. I also got bored with detail calculations because to me, it really didn't matter. I know wind and hills will effect mileage so I roll with it.
For trip planning I use 7MPG if I am towing and not trying to keep up with my DP buddies who like to go 70-75MPH.
I smile when I get better than 7(which is most of the time) and shrug when I get less.

After many different rigs and methods of travel I gave up on the mileage thing. I am an RVer to use the rig and see America, if fuel is $6.00 or $2.00 a gal. I will still use my coach. If head winds or tail winds, help or hurt so be it. Oh I use run the generator while in motion so that effects the mileage. As for your 80 gal tank, I also have 80 gal tank and its a pleasure to stop between 1/2 and 1/4 to stand up and stretch.
Do not forget your mileage depends also on how much weight you are carrying or pulling.
My opinion on fuel mileage is so what! Either you purchased the unit to use or to set in the yard.

I like the 7.3 torque and noise level better than my previous V 10.
My onboard dash calculator says 7.9
35 foot Bounder pulling a GMC canyon.
I don’t care much about mpg like the others have said. I do feel a little guilty as I pass a EV or Hybrid but not for long.

Is 80 gallons enough, Yes. We tow a GMC Canyon. We are always loaded with water and stuff, at gross.
I plan for 7 mpg, get above 7.5 mpg really doesn't matter if its mountain terrain or on the plains.
My speed us usually 65 to 70 mph. Slower will get me 8 mpg. A headwind can be a killer.
The fuel guage is accurate and I will push the tank to 550 miles depending were the 550 miles. Out west or at night I will fill up earlier if there is guaranteed fuel when we will need it.
The generator will use about 1 gallon per hour.
We do not get to picky about fuel prices. We do use a fuel app some of the time but easy/safe in and out are more important. That said we seldom stop at Flying J or Loves.

2022 Entegra 29S pulling 5000 loaded Ford Ranger.
About 20,000 miles on it, mostly towing, last trip was Florida to Seattle and back via Dallas area.
Consistently around 8.2-8.4 mpg. Dipped a little with strong headwinds (>20mph) and higher elevations (>6000' but that isn't exactly apples to apples as the octane of the fuel out there was different). That is both computer and calculated. Both are close and so is the fuel gauge. Pleased with accuracy of the fuel system meters.
I drive 60-65mph on interstates, 60-65 where the speed limit is 60-65 and maybe a few mph below some lower speed limits if traffic or roads warrant.
I also go slower than most up steep grades, many times out west were uphill at 40 or so mph (remember towing 5000 pounds on a 18,000# RV GVWR.
Sorry I couldn't give you going downhill with a tailwind CALCULATED mileage as I usually don't fill up at the top and bottom of each hill.
By the way, to keep my GVWR under 18000#, I have NEVER filled my 80 gallon tank, only 3/4 has been my max. No problem with a bit of fuel planning.

The saying "your mileage may very" has never been truer then when talking about RVs.
There are so many variables involved like weight, towing, aerodynamics, terrain, driving habits, etc. that it makes threads like this almost pointless IMO. BUT, the comparisons are always fun to contemplate, right?

If MPG is a big issue with RVing, then it’s probably time to change hobbies.
Ask anyone…….How many miles to the gallon does their house get?

Over the last 10k miles I averaged 7.7mpg. This was a 26k Ford chassis towing a Jeep. We used 65mph as our highway cruising speed. Your smaller and lighter rig will use less fuel. You should be able to drive 500 miles before worrying too much about fueling.

We have a 2023 Sunstar V29 with the 7.3, our averages between 7-8 as others have posted. We usually top off when we stop for breaks, walk the dog, etc. I will not go below 1/2 tank before I stop and fill up just because you never know what might happen down the road and not be able to get gas or get stuck in traffic, etc. Plan on between 7-8 and you can't go wrong.

Depending what part of the country you are in, meaning how remote or surrounded by fuel/assistance, I will drive down to 1/4 tank maybe a hair under.
I have learned to trust my fuel gauge and computer estimates through careful calculations over the first 10,000 miles.
I don't drive long days (3-6 hrs unless emergency) and due to weights often only start with a 1/2 a tank.
With mileage varying between 7mpg and over 8mpg, even that little bit helps when being critical on fuel.
