Ford 7.3L Gas Air Filter Help!

Hi all, I am a newbie and this is my first post. Forgive me if I'm doing this wrong
My wife and I recently purchased a 2020 Forest River FR3 30DS with the Ford 7.3L Gas V8 (Class A on the F53 chassis). We love it so far! We just bought it in January and have already put 7500 miles on it! It was so nice and comfy at Disney in Orlando for 10 glorious days!

I was doing my first servicing today and everything went nice and smooth. Everything was easy to get to and needed very few tools! (After servicing my Sprinter Based Winnebago Via for the last ten years that was soooo refreshing! lol).

My "replacement" Air filter for the 7.3 came from the local NAPA. It was a NAPA Gold cross reference for the original Motorcraft BC34-9601-BA which seems to be discontinued (??).

Anywho, I could not get the air filter compartment to close with the new filter! I put the old one back in and BOOM...it closes. I went back and forth with the new and the old thinking I must be doing something wrong but I wound up putting the old one back in.

I will re-check with NAPA in the morning to see if they've had other reports of this same issue.

Any ideas from any other 7.3 V8 Gas owners? Anyone else encountered this problem? Would sure appreciate any advice/help!

Happy Camping!

Michael

Maybe NAPA just gave you the wrong filter or cross referenced Ford OEM apart # wrong. Take old filter out and put on a flat table and compare them...

Yep! Thought about that and did compare them and they seem very similar. The new one does have some excess "drip" from the thick rubber gasket seal on top. Maybe that's keeping it from seating good and sitting all the way down in the air filter box. Not sure. Will look again in the morning with clear eyes and a clear mind. Thanks for the suggestion.

Best Regards,
Michael

According to Rock Auto, the Motorcraft filter number is 5C3Z9601AA

NAPA is usually the most expensive local auto parts retailer.
I buy almost everything on line saving 25% or more. Amazon should be cheaper, Ebay usually less than Amazon. Walmart.com can even be cheaper. But you got to know your items price including shipping.
I keep spares for the most replaced parts. It saves me time when needed and incase that part needs replacing sooner than anticipated. Do cross referencing to insure your getting the correct part before buying.

The filter that worked for me was a STP SA10071 which I found at the local Advance Auto Parts for $19
Thanks to all who chipped in with advice, part numbers and well wishes!

Best regards,
Michael

Keep in mind STP filters are garbage. Buy a factory filter or Napa gold. Cheap air filters do not filter as well and that means dirt gets into your cylinders.

Where is your data to back up your rather bold statement?

Stp filters are low end filters made by champ labs. Right on the box it says they are 90% efficient. WIX brand are tested at 99.5 percent. I don’t know about you but 9.5 percent extra dust and dirt is not good for cylinder walls.

This used to be true however todays sensor heavy rigs do not do well with the tiny particles of oil that come off K&N filters. Not good for your MAF sensor and MAP sensor which are both downstream of the filter.

I would stay away from oil impregnated air filters.

If there is even a small excess of oil that is drawn into the intake system, it will cause the MAF sensor to give a false reading (lower) of the air flow. This in turn causes the engine to go lean, causing engine damage.

I have seen it happen, so be warned.
