Understand Ford went to a different trans in 2005. What was the change and its effect on performance? Thanks

Not sure of the exact year but they changed from 4 speed (3 plus overdrive) to 5 speed. Allows for smoother acceleration and less RPM change when cruising down the road and needs to downshift to get over that slight grade. Latest change, I believe, was in 2016 going to 6 speed transmission. The V-10 engine also had improvements to increase torque and overall HP close to or at same time of transmission changes.

I did notice this year during our frequent camping trips there was an increase in new or newer class A's in 30+ - 40' range with gas powered. If I could afford to upgrade to a newer rig I would definitely test drive a 2016 or newer. I did test drive a 2007 a few years ago. Compared to my then 460 w/4 speed it was better but not close to the performance of diesel.

Reading on “internet” ford went to 6R140 6spd transmission for supper duties in 2011. Why do you think it took until 2016 to put them into F53 MH?
