Ford V10 service in San Diego?
Recently, I started getting an error message that says “check fuel cap”. I replaced the cap but the message still appears. A few weeks later, my check engine light came on.
I called one of the ford dealerships down here in San Diego and was told all I had to do is disconnect my negative battery cable and the messages would disappear. Didn’t seem like a diagnosis to me but I tried it anyway-didn’t change anything. He said that that the fuel cap has been modified by Tiffin and I needed to take it to an RV repair shop to diagnose ??? Didn’t even want to give me an appointment to diagnose the check engine light issue.
Has anyone used a dealership or independent shop in the San Diego area to service their V10 in a class A motorhome?
Thanks, Steve

Didn’t have my V10 long enough for service other than an oil change at South Coast RV in Chula Vista. Tyler in service might be able to help or point you in the right direction.

I had the same issue with my 2014 Jayce Precept V-10 on a recent trip from NM to SC. High altitude to lower altitude, arid to humid environment and my “check fuel cap” First, I took off the original gas cap, flipped the ring gasket around after cleaning it and reinstalled the gas cap. I then hilt the reset button on the dash and it cleared the message. I was good for probably 1k miles then the check fuel cap came on again and later the check engine light appeared. I picked up an OBD scanner that has reset code ability. You can get one for under 20.00 or you can spend 100’s if you choose. I picked up a cheap one. Walmart, auto zone, Temu or wherever. They are cheap nowadays, then check the code. The connector for the OBD reader is on the right under the dash it has a rubber cover on it and can be hard to see it hangs a little so easy to get to it once you see it.
My Code read P0455 evaporator leak which basically involved the leak of gas fumes as the gas tank is pressurized and the sensor picks up some sort of leak which in this case was the gas cap. I went to NAPA and picked up a new gas cap specifically for the V-10. Don’t get a knock off go to NAPA the only place I could find one. I then reset the code with the OBD reader. No issues since. Cheaper than taking it into the service department or having a mobile mechanic do the same thing.

to OP, get a cap from Ford or NAPA, not wallyworld or some generic autoparts shop

When I did state emissions tests, if the gas cap failed the pressure test, I would spray WD-40 on the cap gasket and threads. Retest it and it passed. Might try that on the original cap.
Like others said, get a cheap code reader and see what the code is. Could be the EVAP purge valve that is slowly leaking. There’s a vacuum diagram under the hood that will show the valve location. I believe it’s on top of the engine near the intake manifold. Buy a Ford valve, not an auto parts store one.

El Cajon Ford took over Rick's RV and renamed it El Cajon Ford Pro Elite. They service commercial fleet vehicles and will work on Class A's.

So that’s why is says permanently closed on Google Maps. I was going to mention Rick’s but thought it was closed. Thanks for the update.
