Unless buying a much newer coach where the only option is Ford, I would venture most buyers would opt for the Workhorse/Allison combo vs Ford. But I do agree, that more importantly than chassis, is whether the unit checks all the boxes on the wish list.
We love our 2010 coach on the late 2008 Workhorse chassis.

Workhorse vs Ford chassis
Have a 2008 National Dolphin, with a W24 workhorse Chassis with 6 speed Allison 26k miles , would not have anything else , solid combo. Just check the Warranty out, the Allison has 200k and the Ford is 36k on the transmission. Have only added Air bags and a Safe-t- steer. Can pull 7% grades at 50mph or more towing a Jeep !

I congrats SH I have been skeptical of chips and would like to ask if you would post your results please. I dont doubt that they work in fine tuning the motor and trans I just wonder if there is enough bang for the buck to make them a worthwhile investment for mileage.

Ford V10 vs Chevy/WorkHorse
I'm not sure how many yrs. they had the Arens push button selector on the W-24 I think only a couple but I really like it. It has the Mode button like the Allison Diesel combos which changes the shift sequence for city driving by shifting up quicker at shorter intervals. You can also use the shift pad to downshift manually when going up or down hills much easier than grabbing a shift lever on the column. That along with the grade brake makes it very nice to drive.

Per Wikipedia, the last 8.1 V8 was built at the GM Towanda NY engine plant in December 2009.

How does one argue with that?

I have the 5 Star tune in my 2003 Ford V10 in a F53 chassis with the 4R100 transmission. Worth every penny and more. Really stopped the transmission from hunting around for a gear on small hills and downshifting when approaching a small rise. Maybe a slight increase my n power but not a lot. No change to a very slight improvement in fuel milage on the order of a 1/10 mpg or so. Still the single.best thing I've done to improve the drivability of my coach.

I had the Ford v-10 in my previous RV. I think both are good engines and very comparable in terms of power and torque. The V-10 tends to rev higher, so hills are NOISY! The real difference with Workhorse is the Allison transmission. It's great, and with the grade brake it makes the workhorse chassis the next best thing to a diesel.

I had an Allison in a Silverado 2500 and I really miss it. By far the best trans. I have ever driven.

Definitely the best investment I added to the Motorhome...more HP, more torque and much improved shifting. It is also much quieter driving without the screaming engine downshifts. For some strange reason the Ford shift strategy downshifts from 5th to a screaming 3rd gear, the tune shifts 5th to 4th and then 3 when needed. I now pull most grades in 5th as it doesn't downshift on ant hills.
