Fort Davis to McDonald Observatory

Can a 40’ diesel pusher make it the observatory? Is there adequate parking?
Anybody have experience with this please post asap….we are headed that way!
TIA.

There is a large parking lot at the bottom of the hill where the visitor's center is. You should be able to park there and see the sites. However, the Large telescopes are up on the hill and it's about a mile from the parking lot to the top of the hill. it is very tight up there. In short, I would not try to go up there in a motorhome.

I'm going off a trip to the observatory, and a quick look at google maps. When you get there it might be different.

Let us know how it goes.

Good Luck!

No problem parking at the Visitor's center (near entrance).

But, very common to camp/leave coach at Fort Davis State Park and drive toad up to the observatory.

Be sure to make reservations at the observatory-- suggest the "Star Party" evening program.

Just do a Google street and satellite view of it:

We took our 27 ft class c up few years ago. No problem and plenty room to park and turn. Have a 40 ft now would do the same thing. Supply trucks and equipment have to go in the area also.

It has been about 5 years since I was last there, and no problem getting to the visitor center, at the time they had shuttle buses running up to the top of the hill for tours at the telescopes, as well as self drive up there, but I parking is limited up there, I would not even try to take my 28 ft coach to the top of the fill, though I did drive my 21 ft camper van up there circa 25 years ago.
