Foul smelling water

We purchased a gently used MH last fall and have been trying to rid the foul smell in the water. Initially we thought it was the fresh water tank and flused the tanks several times using both a purchased product as well as Clorox Bleach. But what puzzles us most is that we still have the odor when hooked up to city water. It diminishes when the water runs for a period of time but the next time you turn on the faucet it appears again. Any thoughts or ideas?

Did you sanitize the water heater when you sanitized the FW tank? after filling the FW tank with bleach and water did you draw it up in to the plumbing lines and let set for 4 hours or more?

I would clean and flush the hot water tank.
We had a TT that had a sulfur smell that came from the hot water tank.
Good time to replace your anode also if you have one.

I'd bet the problem lies in your hot water tank. Flush the tank repeatedly and change your anode. See if that makes a difference.

Very good advice given, and if I may add, it takes a few flushing's to completely rid your system of that sulfur smelling water.

If you have water a filter/filters in your system, time to change them also.

Hi Kim,
What kind of water hose are you using when connecting to city water? I had a brand new potable water hose that when used made my water smell and taste terrible.

It's the hot water heater if it a "rotten egg" smell.
Easily dealt with!

I would definitely agree it's the hot water heater. And if you turn the hot water heater on it makes it considerably worse. Ask me how I know.
I make a habit of flushing the hot water heater every time I let the RV sit for over a month. Never had a problem since starting that task.

RV Geeks has a great U-Tube video on flushing the water heater with Vinegar. Then use a flushing wand through the drain port. You may be amazed at what comes out.

x2 on vinegar treatment of hot water tank. Make sure you do the wand flush and change the anode too.

I had the sulfur smell this week....My owners manual says 1/4 cup of bleach for every 15 gals. I have a 90 gal tank and added the required amount. Some camping friends do this routinely and leave it in there tanks, I worry about the damage bleach can do. How long should can this mixture stay in the hot water tank and plumbing?
