Four 6V batteries to 12V wiring question

I want to clean up the battery bay wiring

The Magnum ME 2012 is in a separate bay before the battery bay.

The positive and negative cables from the Magnum come through the wall to the battery bay.

The Magnum positive cable is on the first battery positive post. The Magnum negative cable is on the second battery in line on the negative post

Maybe to keep the negative cable short as possible?

Is that the correct way of wiring? My fourth battery in line has the negative cable to the BMK other end has negative chassis cable

sketch of how the wiring is

Your set up wrong. If your inverter negetive is NOT on the shunt, no inverter or charging is being monitored.

All RV negetives must go to one side of the shunt.

All battery negetives must go to the other side of the shunt.Click image for larger version

Well,
I never have known what "shunt" is for. But, pretty sure I don't have one. Our coach is an '04 Itasca Horizon 36GD with the CAT C-7 330HP. It was originally setup with a Dimensions 2000 Watt Inverter/Charger that lasted for about 11 years or so. It was a MSW design. I replaced it with a Magnum ME2012 which is also a MSW Inverter/Charger.

I have traced the large cables from the coach batteries, all the way across the coach, to the Inverter/Charger and, there is NOTHING in line with any negative cable. I do have a 300A fuse for the positive side that is directly above the coach batteries. I also have the temp signal sensors on the batteries. There is a phone type cord from the Magnum to it's remote control inside the coach.

That remote tells me everything that's being sent to the batteries (coach) and their status. Right above that remote is the toggle for checking either set of batteries. But, I'm pretty sure I have no shunt.

The shunt is the only way of tracking in/out of the battery. any battery gauge /state of charge is just a guess without it.
All power to and from the battery must flow tru it. battery to shunt one side with all other power in/ out on the other side I can't remember how my Winnie of that vintage was wired or if it even had one.i doubt it
with my current and any future coaches I wouldn't be without one to properly judge battery condition. Since you making changes You might consider properly wiring one in if not there with a proper battery monitor

Thanks Twinboat, I didn't think it was right, it is how I got it from previous owner

I'll get a new longer negative for the Magnum to the back side of the BMK shunt

A shunt is for a battery monitor, not standard equipment on most RVs.

It works like a gas gauge, measuring amps in and amps out of all battery usage.

A remote, on an inverter charger, only shows charging and discharging rates along with battery voltage of its use.

It does not monitor house loads or solar charging.

Roger that Sir, thanks for the explanation. Nope, I for sure do not have one.
