A couple of days ago when I closed and locked my 2006 Hurricane the steps went in normally just as they always have. Then today when I opened the door they refuse to operate. I just had Lung surgery and can't work on it to any depth but does anyone know any quick and easy checks I can do before I have to go pay an arm and a leg to get it repaired. I completely overhauled the steps on my last RV but just can't do that right now. Anyone know where the fuse is? I have tried the Ignition key on and off and the step switch in both positions.

make sure the step switch is on first and foremost, then start looking for a blown fuse or bad ground, bad connection to step motor etc. my fourwinds windsport has the fuse installed very close to the step motor, its an in line style

Just went through the same thing with my steps, Alpine coach, found that the butt connector providing power to the step had corroded and broke apart, right at the initial connection to the step wiring, right where the switch connected to the 12 volts from the coach. Once I found it, easy fix, it was covered by tape and wire guard. I have yet to find the fuses though. If you are able to get under the steps then check for power on the Red wire, I was following the Kwikee step wiring diagram.

The steps on my 2006 Hurricane are powered by the chassis battery and the fuse is in the Battery Control Center (BCC). A quick check for power is if the 'night light' on the steps comes on when the door opens. Light on = good switch and power available. As mentioned check the ground and the power in connector. Beyond these simple checks and your getting into effort that might be a bit more then you are up too.

Also check the chassis battery disconnect. If available mobile techs are a low cost option for repair services. With no real overhead costs their hourly rates are much less. If you need parts PPL has pretty good prices.

You can also try to unplug the 4 wire connector and spray contact cleaner in it and reconnect. The connector is susceptible to the weather and could have some corrosion. It worked for me once.

Remember, your steps could activate as soon as you touch it, so stay to the side and behind, out of the way, just in case they extend.

While you are down there lube the hinge points that are under your steps. Your steps could just need a good lube.
