From Dometic to residential fridge in slide
Need help. Have 2002 Newmar DS DP with fridge in slide. Want to go residential with smaller model but most say can’t be built in or can’t be used with regular inverter (not pure sine wave). Anyone do this and have recommended model? Space is limited, not taller than 60”. Thx

Recommend installing a small 1000 watt, PSW, standalone inverter just for the fridge. The MSW inverter may draw more energy then the fridge anyway.
Leave the MSW inverter to do what its doing.

I replaced ours with a Frigidaire, did as Twinboat suggested and added a 1000w PSW Inverter dedicated to the Fridge.

It was almost a perfect fit we really like it.

Haven't had any problem with our GE residential (installed by prior owner) and the original 2008 Xantrex 2000W.
We've had the MH for two years and boondock when we want and keep the fridge running when we're driving, etc.

Many fridges run OK on MSW inverters.
Its just that PSW inverter power is much closer to electric grid power and electric motors run 30% better and cooler on them.

Not inverter issue but built in problem
It’s not the inverter as much as being told can’t put fridge in built-in as can damage compressor. We have a 2000 watt MSW. Thanks for comments anyway

Should not be a problem as long as fridge manufacturer's clearance's are adhered to. Many RR are built into slides.

The frig I used is a whirlpool 10.9 0r 11 qf model with ice maker option. It is built like the older refrigerators with the condenser coils on the back of the unit. I insulated the compartment an sealed around the front of the frig. I also left the rear vents open for venting. I don't camp in freezing weather but so far it works fine.

I installed a Samsung RF-197 - a predecessor to current models - and used my 2000w MSW inverter to power it. You can use an MSW inverter with a Samsung as their internal power to components is DC. As a rule of thumb, you cannot use an MSW inverter on an any fridge that has digital controls or display as they need pure since wave power to operate.Good luck, you will find it the best thing you did to your coach.

Great suggestions
Thx you all! I think the Samsung or Whirlpool will fit space (it’s in a slide so metal runs across top affecting height) but good to know specific options are available.

Replaced our Dometic side by side in the P.S. Slideout with GE model # GPE12FSKCSB w/ ice maker. Then installed a AIMS 1200W PSW with automatic built in Transfer Switch. Has worked great for about 6 months and over 5K miles. Originally wanted the Samsung RF18 but due to slide-out height opening went with the GE. Glad we did after all the posted problems w/ Samsungs.

A residential fridge is more suitable to a slide than any RV fridge. It doesn't require backside ventilation and is usually lighter for a given fridge volume.
Most residential fridges will still run on MSW, but no motor or compressor is going to operate at peak efficiency on MSW. Providing PSW power yields superior reliability and minimum power consumption. You can get a 1000-1200 watt PSW inverter for a couple hundred bucks these days, so just bite the bullet and install one dedicated to the fridge. It can be powered off the same battery bank as the existing MSW.

Thx for info! Wondered what RV you have that worked. We do not think we have 4” above for venting because of slide mech. But this model is closest in height size to our old Dometic

Yes, will replace inverter to PSW, not bad prices. Ours might be original - 18 yrs old!! Good to know about back spacing too. Wish same for top.
