Front AC Issues

the front roof top ac unit starts up and blows nice cold air when gen runnin, but after a few min it shuts off, then you flip breaker off on on gen and it grunts like it pullin a trailer upna mountain then runs normal and ac wont do anything till you've let it sit for while and it does same tbing over agian. where do i start in diagnosis

Not allot of info Mr. Vogey but if I had to guess I would start with a possibly dirty evaporator coil. Possibly a dirty filter or filters. Could be low on Freon.

All or the above suggestions involve the evap coil as what you describe could be the result of the coil freezing. You wait a while and it thaws and starts working again.

If the a/c is short cycling, I would suspect the thermistor, the little white switch or sensor that is screwed into the ceiling on the drivers side.
