Front grill won’t stay closed

Good morning!
The front grill on my class A keeps popping open when driving! This is the large fiberglass engine access grill/ hood/door that rises up when you release the two locks. It appears like the door is slightly bowing out in the middle and this is easing the lock out of the slots on each side. I am thinking I either have to try and flatten this large fiberglass panel(seems really tough to do) or I need to find or make longer arms that attach on the back of the lock and rotate into the slots as the keys are turned. Anyone have other ideas?

I would adjust the rotating locks.
Before trying to bend the fiberglass.

Yea, I will try something there first. The only adjustment on the locks is “in and out”, but I need a sideways movement.

I'm having the same problem. The current plan is to replace the swiveling tangs on the latches with longer ones, probably made from aluminum bar stock. There's no reasonable way to support the door in the middle.

Knowing the trade name is half the battle searching MH odd ball parts . I think your looking for cam lock Pawl/s. There's hundreds out there different sizes and angles, most have, a round hole one ore two flats. I looked for some for my MH pano doors without any luck, but seen very many.

Thanks for that! I didn’t know what to call them. Maybe now I can do a proper search!

I had the same issue with my new Challenger. I couldn’t find what I needed online, so made my own latches. Hopefully the link below works and sends you to my original post. It has a picture of old and new latches.

Nice work. Sometimes you just have to get creative to fix things that the factory is not capable of doing in the first place. We have all had something like this in our RV lives.

Outside the Box

With a little bending and trimming of excess this would give you a lockable engine cover. Hook goes over the bottom chassis lip and tightened on. Bar is bent to go behind hood and out lower space of bowed cover. Excess locking bar teeth cut to length.

Could be something as simple as improper alignment of the latch.

The odds that the fiberglass is "bent" is very tiny. Fiberglass parts are built in a mold, and once cured, don't change shape unless it's wacked and cracked.

Any autobody shop can quickly figure out what's wrong and apply a fix.
Pictures would help for Distant Diagnosis.
