Frustrated with Dometic refrigerator

I have a two door Dometic refrigerator with an ice maker. I’ve owned this motorhome for three years now and the refrigerator has never performed adequately. I just had a fan installed behind the refrigerator through one of the vents and still issues.

With the fan, the refrigerator portion now gets down to 32 degrees but the freezer won’t cool below 20. Also the top of the freezer has to be defrosted about every five days, extreme ice and frost buildup.

I can’t afford to do a residential conversation as much as I’d like to. I have a service plan that will pay for a repair if someone can figure out what needs to be replaced. Is there a part that might need to be replaced that could possibly make this refrigerator work correctly?

Sounds to me like you have an air leak into the freezer, hence the rapid frost buildup.

YEP ^^^^^
Door seals leaking
Freezer has NO outside connection so warm/moist air can only get in via leaky door seals OR opening door and lookie louing

Cooling unit is functioning otherwise food compartment (last in cooling process) would not be getting that cold

Yep, our Dometic 1292 double door does the same thing.
Freezer door seal is marginal. You can hear it suck air in when closing.
We just live with it for now and defrost it frequently.
The best "improvement" we've done is the interior computer type 12v dual fan upgrade for the refer portion.

This fix may not be recommended, but try putting a light coat of Vaseline on the Freezer door seal.

OEM Door seals are not sold...
Complete doors are

First thing
Use straight edge and see if door is warped

Second thing
CLEAN the door seal

Third thing
If door not warped and seal are clean and not torn
Place cotton balls under seal in each corner
Warm the seal using hair dryer...whole seal needs to be warm
Then Close door and allow seal to reset

After seal has cooled remove cotton balls
