Fuel gauge stuck at 1/4 tank.

1996 Bounder with Ford chassis that sat for a while. Initially gauge was on empty. Added some gas and it went to 1/4. Drove probably 50-60 miles and it didn't move. Added 32 gallons (75 gallon tank) still didn't move.

Hoping that there is some other solution than dropping the tank and replacing sending unit and/or float arm.

Worst thing u can do let a tank sit empty.. u may get lucky and it will free up on its own. But more than likely moisture in the tank has corroded everythig

We bought it from someone who let it sit and learning the hard way what can happen.

What are you referring to when you say if we get lucky it will get unstuck?

I'm guessing your sending unit needs replacing, but before you drop the tank, check all chassis grounds. Be sure all bolted cables and wires to the frame are clean and snug. A 1996 vintage motorhome sitting is bound to have corrosion. A little corrosion at just the right place will cause havoc on electrical components.

Might also want to add some Techtron. Some fuel gauges suffer from sulfur contamination and will read erratically. Not sure if that's your issue but better than dropping the tank.

If it is sticking in the tank. A few tanks of fuel may get it working again.. but u also don't really want to go on vacation not knowing how much fuel u have in the tank

Run the generator, when tank is 1/4 the generator shuts down.

Almost surely the tank sending unit, which is in the fuel tank. The gauge itself is unlikely to stick at any mid-point if it fails.

Personally I would just drive by miles, using an estimated miles/gallon figure. Most coaches are pretty consistent on mpg, e.g. 7 or 8 and you can be confident that 50 gallons of fuel will take you xxx miles and know when it's time to re-fuel.
