That looks freakin Beautiful! Good job. So what is this about the clear coat being applied soon after the base, do you mean base color? Is it applied as if it is another coat of color is that what you are suggesting?

I used "single stage" paint , no clear coat required.

Most paint jobs today are two stage, the color is painted first (the base coat) then the clear coat is painted over it to give it the gloss and durability.. When painting with two stage (base-coat / clear coat), the clear needs to be applied almost immediately (within several hours, about 16-18 hours max) after the base coat (color) is applied in order for it to bond. This will produce a good chemical bond.

Exactly... You let the base coat tack up, but not cured. The max time depend on the clear used, hardener used, air temperature, time etc.. But generally, this should be done within hours of applying the base coat (the color).

Well,
If what you're saying about time frame application being the cause of peeling, then what you're saying is, General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Winnebago, Chrysler, Jeep, Country Coach, Honda, and many, many more manufacturers have no idea how to paint their products. I've seen peeling on each and every one of those brands. And if it was the case, then why SPOT peeling? Why not the entire cars/trucks/motor homes etc. start and have peeling throughout the entire vehicle, all at once since the clear is applied all at once?

Like you, most all of my dealings with paints and painted cars/trucks/jeeps, have been dealing with single stage paints. Mostly Dupont Imron and Centauri. But, I have experimented with Ditzler and Sikkens.

One of the many causes of peeling is poor adhesion. Others include poor quality products, incorrect mixing of chemicals, incorrect temperature when applying, etc, etc.

I'm a rookie and a novice. Painting is both an art and a science.

Clear Coat (s)

Ever notice how the recent higher end coaches are putting on multiple clear coats and make it a point to mention it in their marketing? The same with autos in the $100K range and up. Most older coaches only had a single clear coat applied and the UV just eats it up unless you keep it coated with any wax (liquid or paste) with UV protection. In addition when the painting is done at the factory there is some buffing required to remove the orange peel in the clear coat or paint, this thins the clear coat.

If you have the roof (gets the most UV) repainted have at least 3 coats of clear applied and keep a UV protectant like Aerospace 303 or some of the liquid floor waxes that some use. I apply a thin coat of 303 on the dark painted roof surfaces after every other wash, takes less than 15 minutes.
