Buying used RVs from dealers

For new MH, the usual discount of 25+% off MSRP applies. But, how do you work with a dealer on the sale price for a used RV? I know this is a silly question since I'm guessing NADA and other guides as well as other online and dealer pricing comparisons is what you would do?

NADA is usually close in valuing the mass produced RV's..HOWEVER.. It is WOEFULLY inaccurate when addressing the true & accurate value of the custom/low annual production builders. (10 to 60 coaches a year). ie: Country Coach/Foretravel/Newell/Prevost conversions.

What approach would you recommend when coming up with an offer?

I suppose if I have multiple coaches to choose from, I could just put a low bid on each one and see how the negotiation goes. There are a lot of tools to help with how to bid on cars, but, not much information on buying RVs other than the often cited 30% off MSRP for new ones.

We bought a 2006 38' Bounder DP in the low $50's. About 40K miles and tires were about 1 1/2 years old. Did a face lift inside, new seating and built a cabinet with a tv lift and fireplace. I did get caught with a few items that I didn't expect such as new front brakes and a new muffler. We still at about $60K and have a nice reliable MH.

I would have to recommend what we finally settled on and even though not full timers.
They made this coach in the LE model for a long time and with having CAT power in 05, 06 and 07, so would not go newer than the 07 with an 06 engine.
One of these 3 LE models should satisfy your budget and for getting one in superb, condition.

Here's the coach for you. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-MONACO...hcnsG9&vxp=mtr We have one, a 2004 Signature Castle IV with the Detroit engine and just love it. This engine was a very costly extra when the coach was new and is probably the best diesel available. This vintage Monaco is incredibly well build and doesn't have DEF injection.

Don't be afraid of the salvage title. Our coach has one because of a break in and stolen electronics. We have had ours for 7 years now and put 70,000+ miles on it.

Looking at the generator use, I'd say this coach was a NASCAR driver rig.

You should be able to get a very nice, upper tier diesel pusher for that price. I sold my 2004 American Tradition for $69k back in late 2016 and the condition was great (if I do say so myself). In that price range you should find Monaco Windsors & Camelots, Holiday Scepters, National Tradewinds, Winnebago Vectoras, Itasca Horizons, Newmar Dutch Stars, Tiffin Allegro Buses, etc. Probably in the 2003-2006 years. You just need to hunt out the kids one. Remember: you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince!

While the 05 Sig is a good price, 212,000 miles, 3000 generator, and salvage title means like them; it will be hard to sell.

X2 A salvage title means that an insurance company totaled it rather than repairing it. Sounds like a bit more than just some light switches that were "missing or not working", maybe some kind of electrical fire. Since the coach isn't currently registered the buyer doesn't know if it would pass a state inspection and it's clearly be sold "AS IS"!

Personally, I'd run,not walk to the next advertisement!

Google the model you're interested in and compare pricing and condition s of each
and that will give you a decent idea of the market. Private sales are usually priced lower than dealers but dealers have more room to negotiate since they probably paid wholesale.

For $100k I agree with Motorhomes of Texas and an older Foretravel. We have been researching used As and they are well built, company is still in business and there is an active owner community. There are some nice ones in your price range that you could have renovated to remove the carpet, upgrade the front lights and even repaint with full body paint. We are partial to nonslide coaches and from what I have learned from owners they last and the systems just require mostly routine maintenance.

However if I were more DIY oriented I would buy a Wanderlodge but they are more complicated. Good luck and have fun in your search!

I have a 2000 Country Coach which I have owned since it was new and I have had very few problems with it, if I were looking now I would try to find a used Country Coach. Extremely well built RV and you should be able to find one within your budget.

Test everything

Have someone or you if possible.
Test everything on the coach
Tire dates
Oil analysis
Both engine and tranny
Also Generator
Run awnings
Test jacks and leveling
Roof leaks
Use it for a week end
Old coaches can be an awesome buy or a terrible headache
Used coaches from private parties will give you the best price because they are done RV ing or they would trade.
Don’t ever believe that you are not in the cat bird seat and can run a low ball offer.
You can save thousands!
Lots of coaches are from inheritance and the kids really just want out.
Ask why it’s being sold and don’t get anxious.
There are a lot of fish in the ocean.
Best of luck and God Bless
