Garage soot solution - re-purposed air filter

I store my RV indoors, and the walls of the shop are rough concrete painted white - so whenever I fired up the coach I'd get this blast of soot all over the wall and floor (99 Beaver with a CAT 3126).

I started out tying an old pillowcase around the pipe to catch the stuff, but it was kind of a PITA, and the pillowcase gets filthy pretty quickly.

Well I changed out my air cleaner recently, and it occurred to me that air in = air out.

So I modeled the coach exhaust and the air filter in Fusion and printed a flexible adapter out of TPU, and some spacers to go under harbor freight casters to put it at the right height. The adapter has a pretty crappy surface finish because I was using some high-speed filament at high speeds. Would have required more than a day to print if I wanted it to look nice.

Rolls right up and connects pretty easily. And since its going in the inlet of the filter, I can just clean it with a shop vac and air gun - since its only used for about 30 seconds at a time, I doubt I'll need to.

Curious, why not a hose going outside the door? You are still getting all the hydrocarbon and CO fumes in the garage. Are you driving the coach after starting the engine? Door up, hose on, after air and stuff is good back out maybe even with hose still attached, take off hose and drive away.

That sure beats the old garage method of running a big rubber hose out a hole in the wall.

Door is always up. 30' of 5" hose? Expensive and a chore to store. I have a big one used with my lawn vac. Don't need that experience again.

Coach is backed in, so I'd have to drag 30' of hose along on the way out.

But its really only necessary for the first few seconds. I start the coach, get out, pull it off, and then drive out.
