This seems very unfriendly to me, and I have found other places to gas up, but I’m wondering, is this pretty common for truck stops? I realize I can go elsewhere, but wonder if I should just avoid truck stops? Not whining, I know I have plenty of other options, just wondering.

Just got back from a 5,000 mile trip from ATL to LAV and back. Now that I'm towing, I like to pre-plan as much as possible: Google street view is my friend! I planned my route so that at the end of the travel day I'd be able to stop for gas before getting to the RV park. In addition, if I was down to half a tank or so, I sometimes took advantage of gas stations that I passed by that had particularly easy in/out set ups that weren't crowded.
Using this approach, I often stopped at Love's and FJP's, which were pretty much hit or miss with RV lanes, and often crowded. I also found that, out west, Maverick's often had a designated RV lane :-D, which were a dream to use.
