Gas port springs for bay doors

I'm wondering if anyone knows of some type of "tool" for install of gas ports on the bay doors. I have the Signature gas port (from Camping World) and have problems with the spring clip that secures to the mounting post. It is almost impossible for me to spread the clip without it sliding into the other side and bending the clip spring or breaking the end. The screwdriver method, as recommended per instructions, always slides the clip spring and prevents the ball mount from seating into the gas port. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you talking about gas struts?

I just push them on. I only have to use a screwdriver to take them off. I just replaced all 32 of the gas struts on my coach and I pushed all of them on.

Man do I feel dumb. I appreciate the insight and yes, they just slipped on. Installed them yesterday (the remaining 18 of them) and now enjoy the comfort of not using a board as a prop. Love this forum and community for all the great info one can obtain. Thanks everyone again.
