Couldn't believe the diesel prices when we went out west last year. PA has the highest gas tax in the nation, used to be people from NYS came here to get cheap gas.

Gas prices
Michigan is ninth in gas taxes 42 cents plus 18.4 cents in federal taxes we all pay, but that's not where it ends we also pay sales tax, 6% on every dollar even the taxes, that puts us in the top five, and part of that goes into the general fund.
If you ever driven in michigan its no secret they should be spending it all on the roads, our new govenor tried to raise the tax another 45 cents and it went no where.

They want us off of fossil fuels and the only way they can accomplish that will be to tax it out of existance.

This is why I fill up before getting to PA and after leaving on my snowbird travels from NH to FL.

Ever since then, I count it a tremendous blessing whenever I get diesel and it's less than $4.00.

NO I haven’t forgotten. Did you miss “probably $3 diesel by summer and $4 in CA. I agree it will go higher but doubt it will be $4 in most of the country for a year.

PA is 10 cents lower than CA. NJ is the bargain in the NE at 12 cents lower than PA. SC is the bargain in the SE.
If by gas you meant diesel the differences are much the same.

Ohio raised ours in 2019 because....”the states around us all have higher fuel taxes”. Guess we had to keep up with the neighbors.
Columbus logic? The governor wanted to index the tax to the inflation rate. Thankfully that got shut down.

Gas Buddy provides a fuel price chart that is so simple even I can use it. In rough numbers it shows current gas prices in Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing at $2.30/gal. A few weeks ago prices were $2.10. A few weeks prior to that they were $2.30. A year ago they were over $2.50.
Kind of sounds like a case of cherry picking two extreme data points to create a story.

Gas prices
Drove I 75 from metro detroit to a northern michigan on Dec. 28th cant speak for lansing and grand rapids but pre Christmas I payed 1.84 a gallon at a station in my town, I will admit that prices are lower there than most of the surrounding communities, but when I passed through Flint, many stations along the freeway were selling at 1.95 for gas and anywhere from 2.35 to 2.65 for diesel, when I got to my northern mi home gas was 1.95 as well, now it's 2.40
Just a observation but in the 50 years I've traveled this state it always seemed gas prices were a little cheaper on the west side of the state, including Grand Rapids.
I'm sure fuel price web sites figure in prices in a entire area and post a average cost, I'm just relating my personnel experiences here in michigan.
It does appear that some sort of fuel price monitoring system may become necessary for those of us who buy 100 to 150 gallons of fuel at time as we travel these two great countries of ours.

The Gas Buddy chart allows for the selection of a number of cities. It is an average for those metropolitan areas. The Gas Buddy app, shows the price at individual stations.
In California, I’ve seen as much as a $1.00/gallon difference between gas stations separated by just a few blocks.
We fill the coach at the local Costco which is typically 10 cents less than the next lowest priced option. There is also 4% cash back for using the Costco card, which equals about an additional 10 cents a gallon.
Yes, shopping around has its rewards.

Just a sign of things to come....
Rising fuel prices are going to be the tip of the iceberg I’m afraid....
Hold on to your checkbook....
You could always find a good workkamper spot and don’t travel for about 6 months; don’t buy fuel; save on CG costs....
I honestly believe the time of sub-$2.00 diesel will quickly evaporate....
Remember those $3.50-$4.50 a gal days a few years ago???? They’re coming back!!!!
