Gearbox leak

Hello everyone I got to my campsite in South Carolina and noticed that my gearbox sprung a pretty heavy leak it left a trail as I backed in to my site. I was at full lock is this something that I need to address right now before leaving? Or is it something that I can address when I get home? I am interested in doing the trw swap I noticed it stopped leaking now that I have been parked a few days.

How much oil leaked, have you checked the reservoir?

It stopped leaking while parked because it is not under pressure, the hydraulic pump works when engine is running.

I assume this is a Sheppard steering box since you mention changing to the TRW.

There was a recent post in the Monaco Owners forum on a similar problem and the individual was able to buy a seal kit for the Sheppard and had a shop rebuild the steering box. It stopped the leak but he is now having another problem with the steering, there seems to be a problem with the steering having a problem having a tight spot.

A decent amount leaked I am going to check the reservoir. I assume it's a Sheppard gearbox because I know my rv originally came with one. I have been doing a lot of research on my coach and I also have play on my steering wheel so upgrading to the trw was in my plans, I am assuming (I will see on departure) that the reason it leaked was because I was at full lock while backing into my site. I keep the rv at my residence on a slab and have never seen any fluid on the ground. I am hoping it will take me home because I called local rv repair and nobody wants to touch it . I'll keep you posted.

If it's a simple press in lip seal might be able to extract it and tap a new one in. Some seal repair kits come with screws to aid in removing old seal. You run a screw or two into metal and you can pry it out. I have used packing removal tool/s as well. Like a cork screw on a drive cable with Tee handle.
If I'm doing a seal in place, I usually get two in case I flub one up.

Update I finally left the campsite after adding Lucas stop a leak and P/S fluid I still had a leak so every stop I added ps fluid and made it home, I did a long stretch after filling up with diesel and as I got close to home it started making noise. I parked it and let it sit a few days and now the steering wheel is locked. What can I expect now? Do you guys think the gearbox is fried or do you think if I just fill it up again it will be fine? I obviously have to get the leak fixed I am just wondering if I can add fluid and take to a mechanic or if I'm going to have to pull that heavy sucker out myself and take it to get fixed?

Thanks Will

If your not getting pressure because it's low on fluid , its going to real hard to turn , crazy hard stationary.
I have hydraulic fans so large reservoir of hyd fluid also for power steering ...does your use regular PS fluid instead .I though DPs used hyd. , ATF or some old Monacos used 15-40.
