Had my gen. overhauled about 30 days ago . Went to storage today to start it just to run it a while. turned over well but would not start, Did not even hit. Understand that these things need to be started and run frequently. Any help or suggestions welcome.

Is there at least 1/4 tank of fuel available?

The engine cranks, so it back to basics: gas, air & spark.

Adequate fuel in the coach tank (roughly 1/4 or more full), air filter clean, etc.

Have YOU started it since the overhaul, or did you just bring it home without testing? Maybe they messed something up, like leaving a spark plug wire off.

Don't forget to prime the engine first. On ours you hold down the stop button until it lights up and then you can proceed to push the start side of the switch. It can also be primed using the switch on the generator itself. My model is the 5500 kw Onan. Best of luck!

My fuel gauge indicates just below half and the generator will not run. At this point, ten gallons of gasoline would be your first diagnostic step.

You tried from the Genset control itself or just the dash toggle?

Are the batteries charged up? You can try starting fluid like you use for a lawn mower. Keep spraying to keep it running till it keeps up on its own.

If you had low fuel, the generator would have started and then run until the line was dry. When you ran it on the way home, did you shut it off or did it just die. If you shut it down, there should have been fuel to start it back up. Take it back to whoever did the work and have them check it.

In 30 days, any fuel left in the carb bowl would have evaporated.

You need to go out by the generator and push the prime switch. You should be able to hear the fuel pump run.
It will run free if there is no gas getting to it and seem to slow down if there is and the carb fills up.

Don't run your engine on starting fluid. A quick shot to help it start is fine but a contionious spray, to keep it running, can damage the engine.

I would suggest disconnecting the fuel line from the tank, temp. install a rubber fuel line put in into a bottle or can of clean fuel. try to start the engine if the pump is good it will suck fuel out of the temp. container you can not disconnect the line to the carb. and start to see if you are getting fuel to the float bowl. If you are getting fuel to the carb. you may have a stuck needle valve. It does happen often after overhaul. Try the starter fluid your engine is a 4 cycle and shots of starter fluid is not going to hurt the engine. if still no luck go back to the overhaul place ad raise hell. If it is getting fuel, air and spark it should run.
