I didn't think that was what that did. I thought it shut off the generator if it sensed the float bowl was over filling to prevent a fire. Now I have to research more.

Test your theory first with a 5 gallon gas can or a boat gas tank.

my old HR Ambassador has same Gen heat issues, Its a air cooled unit, when traveling it would run forever. when parked it would over heat. Tested the temp switch and its setting point is correct @ 210 deg F … I removed the gen covers , open the main door , and also plugged in a portable fan using a extension cord to flow air across gen . Now I have a New water cooled 8500 unit and happy happy.

Take the advice and try a five gallon gas can with a short length of hose first. It is very possible you are boiling the fuel, trying to pump vapor. Verify it runs with external tank.
