Generator issue

2003 Alfa See Ya. My generator will start after pre heat but dies after a few seconds. If I hold the preheat in it will continue to run until I release the preheat button. Any suggestions?

Not sure which type you have/how it's wired but if similar to mine could be either the temp sensor or oil pressure sensor is bad/has bad connection. On my gen the preheat and/or start button bypasses these sensors (not sure why the preheat does but it does).

Well, it does sound like it's a diesel unit and most likely an Onan, so if you have a manual with it, see if there's a way to read any codes, it may have. This will help greatly in determining the malfunction and provide you with better help from our members here.

Most Alpha's have GENERAC generators. My '05 Alpha did. Parts are getting increasingly hard to come by. Pulled mine out with a come a long tied to the bumper of my truck 3 times b4 I managed to kill all the gremlins! What a pain...it was one of the biggest reasons I traded it in on the '14 Anthem we now own.

look into fuel cut off relay. when you keep pressing the preheat, it might be starter still engaging which turns the motor over, not really engine running.
