As a start, get some Dynamax insulation and insulate the cabinet walls and door where it won't block vents. Sometimes, the engine noise is reflected off of the ground. Sometimes a large piece of carpet or foam (size of generator box) placed on the ground during use, can stop some of that reflective noise.

I've been eyeing those "Genturi" things. The one I actually saw being used seemed like it was dampening the noise a bit but of course I had not heard that coach running without the Genturi.

Check the carbon clean out plug (see 100hr maint.) it may be loose or missing from the muffler. Check engine anti vibration mounts for damage or wear.

My Emerald was a little louder than usual. I replaced my exhaust bracket because the stap was broken. The difference was amazing!

Be careful placing anything flammable on the ground underneath your generator..... they throw a lot of heat downward and that could be a major problem if you run your generator for an extended period.....

If the rubber mounts are broken and the generator is resting on steel, it will be louder.

For one thing, there's supposed to be a removable door or hatch in the wall covering the generator from view. On our Suncruiser, it hooked into those holes in the L shaped brackets at the bottom, and was secured at the top with a 1/4-20 bolt. It also served to muffle the sound.

This

It looks like your generator had broken mounts, that would account for the "Lean" you describe as well. Best of luck with quieting the dragon in the basement! And please let us know what you find out!

All emerald lll generators look like this. The green cooling cover angles down and makes it look like it is off level. This is normal. The loud noise is most likely the muffler has rotted our internally. I went to Onan factory school three years after this generator was made. I have worked on many, many emerald llls.

They reduce the noise very slightly but their main purpose is to deflect exhaust fumes above the coach where they won't seep inside. Some facilities (Camping at race tracks, RV rallies? etc.) require a Genturi or equivalent if coaches are parked close to each other. I bought mine for the above reason, not to reduce generator noise.

I ran my Onan through a couple car mufflers. It it very quiet. Can you custom fab up a new exhaust adding another muffler?
