Saw a thread on this before, but can't find it now.

Heard a noise from garage, and found out that the gen in my MH started up by itself.
Unit is plugged in to shore power.
Anyone have any ideas?

Some MH gensets have this feature. It will auto-start if you have the air conditioner turned on, cool to set temperature, then auto-stop until the interior temperature rises above the set-point enough to trigger the auto-start feature. I remember reading about it in my Onan owners manual.

Assuming you don't have auto start......the control wiring has a connector in the harness that can get corroded. Take it apart adn spray some electrical contact cleaner then reassemble. That same issue happened to me a few years ago and that was the fix.

Mine is connected to the AC units and to the battery sensors. Battery's get low, gen will charge and cut off. AC's set to temp will crank gen. If we lose a breaker or power at a CG, the gen will take over. We also use this feature while we travel in hot climates, set the AC and go, the gen only runs when needed.

Mine has the auto start feature.

I was plugged in at a camp. Suddenly, my generator started. After looking into it, I found that the 15 amp breaker tripped at the panel for the campground. Apparently, we plugged a few too many electrical appliances in, tripping the breaker. Unknown to me, my system switched over to battery/inverter. After two days(I have a solar panel that helped extend the battery bank life) the system sensed low batteries and auto started the generator. It's nice when your systems operate the way they should. Even on a "new to me" older coach.

So how can you tell if you have the autostart feature?

Look in the electrical bay and the box will be about the size of an iPhone. There are three settings voltage, time of day, and temp if my memory is correct.
