Generator stops running at half tank
I have a 100gallon fuel (diesel) tank my generator runs out of the same tank but quits after I use about 60 gallons of fuel. In the manual it says that it is supposed to run until I have a 1/4 tank of fuel (about 25 gallons left in tank) Can anyone help me to lower the genset fuel hose so it does not stop when I still have 40 gallons on tank.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Have you verified your fuel gauge is correct? The only way to really check your fuel status regarding the generator is to have the generator cut off then fill the tank. I know...well DUH! LOL
As to "fixing" it...I'm not a mechanic but I don't know there is anything you can do that makes much sense. The fuel port is in a fixed location on your fuel tank and I don't think there is much you can do.
BTW...does your owner's manual expressly say 1/4 tank or "about"? I've seen some say about 1/4 to 1/3 tank.

I'm assuming you are a DIY guy; locate the fuel outlet from the tank. If you can't see it to determine it the outlet is accessible, the tank probably must be dropped enough for access.
My first action would be to contact Holiday Rambler about your Endeavor and ask them this question. It saves a lot of dirty crawling underneath and searching, plus, they might already know about this issue and devised a simple way to correct the fuel pickup.

Skyboss,
Your method is the only logical and precise way to do the test. It will also give him a basic calibration of the fuel gauge. I never trust fuel gauges.
Great advise.

My only suggestion would be to add a secondary tank of 20 gallons or so

If your tank is like mine, you need to identify the intake and the return fuel line for the generator. Once you do that, you can pull the intake line out and buy and fuel line extension kit. I got mine at Autozone. I don't have the part number handy. I dropped the intake about 2 inches.

Here is the fix for my 2008 Endeavor.
Your mileage may vary of course. Sure works better now for me. Mine quit at 1/2 of a tank.

I have the exact same problem in my Monaco Knight but it almost never happens with the same amount of fuel remaining each time but always with much more than a quarter of a tank left. I always fill from the high side so I know the tank is completely full. I also use a ScanGauge D to track usage. My analog gauge isn't very reliable or consistent.

When it quit, I filled up and it took exactly 59.4 gal.

The dip tube is removable from the tank...add more length to it.

The pickup for the generator is shorter than that for the engine so you can't render it undrivable by running the gen. A 40 gal reserve in a 100 gal tank seems a bit conservative, but maybe the end of the tube has been compromised, holed or some such. You can extend it but leave some reserve.

My first motorhome was a 1972 Open Road. I had the same problem. I was lucky, my tank had a drain plug in the bottom. I bought a elbow and measured the tank. I took a short piece of stainless steel tubing and made it 1/5 the depth of the tank. Pressed it into the elbow and installed it in the tank. It worked great. If you have a drain plug, this would be a easy fix.
