Generator Won't Start

I have a Onan 6.5KW LPG gas generator that won't keep running. It is used regularly and it was fully serviced 8 months ago. It started and ran for about 3 seconds then stumbled and died. It will turn over and fire for a second.

It acts like fuel starvation but the tank is half full and other LPG appliances function normally.

I'd say definite propane starvation. Look for restrictions/blockages in the propane line. ROOK

I agree, check your fuel filter first. Then check the air filter next.

The regulator has a vent hose attached to it. This was a common problem in Ga. Dirt daubers would build a nest in the vent hose. This causes the regulator to close and starve for gas. I would start by checking the hose and make sure it is clear.

I believe there is a switch for winter and summer operation on the carburetor/choke have you check it?

My previous MH had an LP generator with this problem. I found that there is a shutoff solenoid in the LP supply line to the generator. It had a 12V wire to activate it but was grounded through the solenoud mounting bolt which was loose. After correcting the ground problem all was fine.

Check the carburator, yes I know it's propane but it the propane is liquid. I've seen this before, the screen in the carburator gets clogged and acts just the way you described. Clean the mess screen, make sure the gas line is clear and fire it up. OK maybe fire was not the correct word.
