Genset Problem Generac Quietpac 65G

Of course this pops up two days before we were planning to leave for Canada...

Genset starts and runs fine.
Puts out 127V on both 110 legs.
Clock on the microwave comes on.
Flat Screen TVs work fine.

Turn on any one of the A/Cs or the microwave and in about 10 seconds the Generator power shuts off.
Generator is still running. With a meter at the Genset... no current.

About 3 minutes later it starts producing current again.
But, if one turns on any high demand device the genset quits producing power.
Demand a load and the little red LED on the voltage regulator (brand new) goes off. No voltage on the lines on the genset side of the breakers.

Transfer switch works fine all the time.

Any help would be appreciated.
Know anybody that will work on a Generac between Florida and montreal?

Does the generator engine sound like its getting loaded down when you switch on a heavy load ?

Can you watch the voltage while adding a load ?

If the engine speed control ( governor ) isn't controlling the throttle it may be going low or high voltage with the load.

127 volts send a bit high.

I think we solved it.

Went out and bought a Hz meter.
Genset was only putting out 50 Hz.
Adjusted the governor.
Set to 62 Hz as per Generac manual.

Then had to reset pot on voltage regulator down to 124 volts.

Now it seems to be functioning fine.

Vacation may be saved yet.

50 Hz? It must have thought it was on the Other Side of the Big Pond.

Glad you found this! Line frequency would have been much later in the troubleshooting tree.
