Georgetown Brake/Ignition "Growl"

We have a "new to us" 2012 Georgetown XL 378TS. When I turn on the ignition, I get a "growling" sound coming from the engine area - and the same thing when I step on the brake. Is this some sort of assist for the brake? Is it normal or something I should have checked out? It sounds somewhat like an exaggerated version of the sound you'll get when the glow plugs are warming up on a diesel, but this is a gasoline engine.

You are correct in your diagnosis. It's the brake booster for when then engine is not running. We had the same question when we had our gas Itasca.

Not sure how many slightly different types in MH over the years. But it's a "Hydro-boost", brake boost is run off power steering pump instead of engine vacuum and has electric back up assist pump.
I've had GMs version , in Astro van and diesel P/U with just PS to brake boost no back up pump.
Like anything on your coach good to familiarize yourself with how it functions . There are threads on them here like most threads, mostly when there's an issue ,so just don't panic reading, the system is pretty solid. Some extra attention to elect back up and PS belt, pump , fluid, or cooler ect is good idea as support of your braking power.

So appreciative of your knowledge and willingness to share it. We've made the move from a Ford Dually and 41' fifth wheel to the Georgetown and are excited to learn all about it and get it customized inside to our own personalities.
