Georgia Class A owners

Just got the tag bill for my Tiffin Class A - had a $50 road impact fee added to bill. Vehicles in GA 15,500 to 26,000 pounds have to pay extra $50 and 26,001 and up pay $100. I'd heard about the fee, but thought it was only on commercial vehicles. Dave

wow.. I had heard about it and read the language. Like you I thought it was for commercial vehicles as well. The language wasn't specific and left an "out" for RV's if they chose to go that way. Guess I have the $100 fee to look forward to! Kinda sucks after paying the big tax $ up front. No more than we use the roads, doesn't seem right, does it.

I wondered about this before I decided to change my residence from Oregon to Georgia. When I looked at my registration, I found that they put my MH weight at 12000 pounds. Guess I won't correct them. Lol. Insurance has gone up around 400.00 bucks a year on MH and 300.00 a year on car. But the good news is that state income tax goes down about that much.

I just paid for my GA tag a few weeks ago and didn't have that fee on my 22k lb's Class A.

Just got the tax bill on my motorhome and it reads "Amount Due $0.00"

Hope that's true but doubt it.

From what I understand this added tax starts for registrations due 1 July 2015.

"The highway user impact fees will be due at the time of initial vehicle registration and annually at the time of registration renewal. For personal vehicles, the fees will be due if the owner’s registration or registration renewal date (i.e. the owner’s birthday) is on or after July 1, 2015. For business vehicles, the fees will be due if their registration date or their statutorily-designated registration renewal date is on or after July 1, 2015. See O.C.G.A. § 40-2-21."

Not having a 'dog in this fight' my question would 'what is the money going to be use for'? If the money was going for road repairs then OK, I would have little issue with it. However if these 'fees' were going into the 'general fund' then I would be having a lot to say!

And from what I understand GA Motor fuel taxes will have a net increases of about 6 cents/ gallon beginning July 1? Removing some taxes but the "net" increase with the application of the new tax is around 6 cents a gallon.

I hope we get some fine roads out of this.
