getting my MH checked out

We have a 1989 winnebago chieftain that has the original manual with it,this is our first motorhome, and I was wondering if I should take it into the local rv superstore to have it checked out or have an rv repairman look it over? The rv superstore charges $90hr vs $45 hr for self employed guy. DH wants to have the brakes done and the furnace fixed and anything else they find before we go camping Memorial weekend. I don't care if the furnace isnt working and we aren't sure the brakes need replaced. I just see a lot of money going out already and we have only been on one trip. There are loads of wires going all over the rv and we don't even know what they go too, so I would like to just pay someone to show us how to use the RV and to show us what wires we need and which we can just get rid of. Thanks in advance

I'd have the RV repairman do it. Follow him around with a notebook/pencil and magic marker. Pick his brain and take notes. When you get to areas that have lots of things on them or in them (like a filter bay), write down what it is on the item in question with your marker...you'll be glad you did.

Have fun!

For the engine or chassis any good mechanic can work on it for you. I paid a guy $105 per hour at an RV repair shop to put brake lines in and after paying over $600+ parts my regular mechanic would have done it for $200. He works on all types of rigs and now works on my MH. Did a complete tuneup for $200+ parts. JMHO on mechanics.
