Girard G2000 roof awning 'laziness'

When retracting into the roof mounted housing, the awning goes all the way in then 'sags' back out anywhere from 1"-6". Same when stopping it anywhere along its travel - motor shuts off then it allows the awning out a little farther. I've tried adjusting limiter settings as suggested by Girard techs; their other suggestion is that the fabric has stretched. Unlikely that's the issue as the other three roof awnings aren't having this problem. Appears simply that the motor isn't 'staying put' when it stops. Needless to say, it's become quite tricky to get this particular awning to close - but after a number of attempts running it in and out it eventually cooperates. I'm guessing these motors have a brake built in that should keep the roller steady when it stops - maybe this brake has failed? I've searched IRV2 extensively to learn a replacement motor is about $800 and Girard manual says 3.5 hours to R&R.
Anybody have an experience like this that can confirm my suspicions...or any suggestions to resolve this? The motor sounds fine and runs the awning in and out just fine - just doesn't stay put when I stop it. Thanks in advance for your input and a Blessed Easter to you and yours.
