GM 8.1 workhorse oil pressure

Oil pressure reads 0 then 129,45,85,0,129 etc.
Just changed oil and filter. Heard bad info on FRAM filters. Any input?
Also looking onto the sending unit or loose connection.
If the filter is the fault would the pressure jump all over the place or stay at zero?
Oil light has come on and then off once. Oil level is fine.

Jumping around equals a bad connection or sender.

Fram filters are complete junk. I don't think there is any filter out there that is worse than a Fram.

That said, the filter isn't your problem. Likely a loose connection somewhere or something wrong with your Actia instrumentation cluster.

Where are you seeing those readings? IF you installed a FRAM filter, I suggest you replace it with almost ANYTHING other than another Fram. The AC Delco PF454 is the OE recommendation for oil filter.

Wrong. The Fram UltraGuard filter is a very good filter.
The cheap Frams are just as bad as the other cheap oil filters.

FRAM's advertising slogan used to be "Pay me now, or pay me later". Most of us think it should have been "....AND pay me later"

Are you talking about the Fram PH5 Extra Guard?

Does Fram offer the Ultra Syn oil filter in a large capacity filter for the Workhorse 8.1?

Looks like it's the XG5.

I didn't see the 8.1 listed on the application guide but looking at the specs it does look like it will work on the 8.1 no problem.

I've had good luck with Wix and Napa Gold but after looking closer at that Ultra Syn it appears to be just as good.

I also like Wix/Napa. I just switched from Mobil 1 to a K&N for the nut on the bottom.

I fully agree with the comments about the poor quality of the Fram filters. I'm talking about the basic Fram filter that everyone buys at Walmart. They are junk. I wouldn't trust it as a paperweight. I can't speak to the other ones such as the XG5. Personally, I always like to use the manufacturer's filters. In this case AC/Delco by GM. If you happened to have a Ford V10, then you should use the Motorcraft filter from Ford. If the filter is good enough for the manufacturer during the warranty period, its good enough for me. Also, the manufacturer knows a little bit more about what his engine requires as far as the design of the filter. Wix and NAPA Gold are good filters. There are numerous YouTube videos showing cut apart filters and showing what a cheap piece of garbage the Fram filter really is. They built their following purely with advertising, not with quality.

Just be careful of the ACDelco from Walmart. All the part numbers end in "E" for economy, which are the same as the standard ACDelco.

I typically use the NAPA Gold unless the Mobil-1 is part of a package deal.

For the OP, I would first suspect a loose or damage connection somewhere. Not sure if you have resolved this.
