Good deal or not? Please advise

We're looking at a brand new Itasca Ellipse 42QD (2014) model. I was thinking of trading my 2012 Newmar Canyon Star 3920 toy hauler in on it. The Newmar has 14,000 miles on it in prime condition.
The MSRP on the Ellipse in this case is $391,883.
I was offered this deal- my coach plus $219,000 to boot. I know it's always better to sell your coach outright, but in this trade situation is this a fair deal?

What's the Newmar worth? 30% off the Itasca is $275k minus $219k = $56k, how's that sound?

Ok, typically do dealers do the discount off the total MSRP then deduct trade amount.......or deduct your trade then give you a discount off the remaining amount?

Typically dealers do whatever adds the most to their bottom line. That deal sounds like a one, for the DEALER. They may be the most honest dealer you've ever had the pleasure to meet but they will make as much money as you let them.

I appreciate the replies, what would you counter offer to the dealer if it were you, anyone?
I'm looking to learn from folks who've done this a few times, I'm only on my 1st coach looking to move up to DP status. I appreciate everyone's input, it's a big purchase I want to do right. I've been at it for weeks now, I'll see the dealer again tomorrow.

Nada Guide shows low $101K and average $122K for your Canyon Star:

I would offer $175K and back off for a few days...
The new one is a 2014... should be 30% off easy..

Using the above math in public, MSRP-30%= $175,000 offer considering $100,000 for your trade in. That sounds about right.

He likely won't go much if any below $200 with your trade but I agree $175 is a fair offer.

I already started at 200k, said he can't, offered 226k, then said he can squeeze it to 219. If I could get him to 200k with 30% off MSRP, then that leaves my coach at 74k. Still not good then.
But originally figured I was getting 25% off MSRP with 93k for my coach to arrive at near 200k to boot.
I don't know, 6 of this and half dozen of the other, not sure what to do.

A dealer I spoke with said they typically offer wholesale minus a few thousand for inspection and repairs. Not sure what wholesale is on your coach but it might be a second way of figuring out what is a good offer. I know that when I saw the loss on my end I backed off real quick. My coach suddenly looked much better

Unless you have money to burn, the members will walk you through the numbers. You can't really deal beyond a certain point when trading your Canyon Star in or buying new from dealers because of their need to make money on both coaches.

What you can get is a quick transaction for busy buyers too busy to inform themselves or sell privately, and take a big hit on your used coach.

If you are patient and put it up for private sale at a price that is priced to sell on this website and other places, you might find a buyer like me who might give you more than $56k for your coach, assuming it is in excellent condition and I want it at the time you put it up for sale and some buyers like me will pay cash.

You are actually not too far apart. The deal with the numbers is to get the difference to the lowest denominator. In the scenario they offered you they are giving you 172,883 for your coach. That's too much. If your coach is valued at $100K then start there. Have them take 25 to 30 percent off MSRP and you will make up the difference. they try to keep the numbers high to make you feel like you're getting a good deal on your trade but that increases your financed pymt plus they sell at MSRP.

They need to give you about 40k more on your trade for both of you to feel they got a good deal. You could sell your Newmar in a nano second to anybody for 56k, so why do that with a dealer. I would put it on the RV trader and see what you get. I don't think you will have any problem getting close to 100k for it. Don't jump at their shinny object, take your time and do it right, unless you have more money than time. You will always be able to get the new MH, but once you do the deal they offered you, you will never get that money back.

They're giving you about $55K for the Newmar (70% of $392K - $219K). Do you think that's a fair deal?
